The first leg of our trip was the sail down to Hammond, Indiana with the Angell's crewing. Here's a few of the places we visited.

Cheap Crew

Gary and Patti joined us for the first leg, pictured here in the Sturgeon Bay shipping canal before we entered Lake Michigan.

Captain and Mate

Which is which depends on the day.

In the beginning

Departure was marked by the light and Coast Guard station at the Lake Michigan end of the shipping canal.

Splash down

With strong west winds we had spray breaking over the foredeck and dodger as we drove toward Manitowoc.

Refuge

The Manitowoc Harbor light marked the end of our first day and our refuge for a couple of days.

Wisconsin Maritime Museum

One of the highlights of the Manitowoc waterfront development is the museum, the WWII sub and the history of the 28 subs built in this port.

Repeat performance

Autumn winds build sharp seas, again we find ourselves throwing spray as we head south.

Okay, enough

In case you missed the others, the decks got wet - the crew didn't.

Sheboygan

The breakwater light at Sheboygan marked the entrance to a neat fishing port and an excellent harbor.

Port Washington

A powerplant under construction was the first landmark for the port.

Lakefront living

Port Washington condo overlooks the lake.

Milwaukee by water

The tall buildings seemed to rise out of the water as we approached Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Landmark

The famous bridge to nowhere confirmed that we were in Milwaukee

Harbor night

It was a treat to see the city by night from the water.

The ole' crew

At Milwaukee Gary and Patti posed with us for a photo before they headed home and we headed south.

Milwaukee Departure

The bridge and skyline are behind us as we head south.

Sailing by the numbers

The knotmeter tells the story, strong west winds make for truckin'

Chicago rises...

Chicago seemed to rise out of the lake as we drew nearer.

Downtown

The city takes on a variety of appearances as you sail by the relationship between buildings changes.

Ruth and Chicago

The city recedes as Ruth helms enroute to Hammond.

Approaching Hammond, IN

Where's the marina? All we can see is parking ramps?? Ahhh, there's a casino boat moored here.
