Cottonwood to Cairo gallery

At the bottom of this page you'll find links to other gallery postings.

From the Cottonwood Towhead we traveled downstream to a slough near Cairo IL, our entrance to the Ohio:

Cottonwood morning

Early the fog rose a little, then it shut down.

Monster lurking

I can hear a tow, where is it?

Is that it?

I think I see him... can he see us?

We're okay

He's in the channel, we're okay!

Welcome to the Cape

Cape Girardeau welcomes river travelers with a mural.

And a Welcome

The levee is about 2 stories high and protects the old downtown during floods.

Sleeping in a drainage ditch

Safe havens are hard to find, you seek any refuge.

You know you've been...

on the river too long when driftwood looks like Tucan Sam!

End of the ditch

At anchor below the Cape, we get snapshots of tows crosing the entrance.

It's a bad day when...

one of your barges decides to play submarine while you are on the river.

Time for an adjustment

A tow needs help re-adjusting the barge train and others moor there barges to help.

Tow Taxis

The tows carry work boats to help them ferry crew.

What about Jeffrey?

It's an inside joke folks.

Relaxing in Cairo

Off the river, time to relax and enjoy the anchorage.

Tomorrow the Ohio

We'll be heading upstream for the next couple of days.
